Improvement of substance abuse curriculum: Met with lecturers and faculty members to discuss views on a formalized substance abuse curriculum throughout the first three years of medical school. Looked at clinical curricula developed by organizations such as the Hazelden Foundation that could be adopted at Cornell Medical School. Arranged with primary care clerkship director for more time to be devoted to substance abuse education. Substance abuse adjunct to the primary care clerkship at Cornell: 1. opportunity to follow patients in one of two methadone clinics; 2. spend time in a clinic which specializes in the outpatient care of patients with substance abuse (i.e., tobacco, alcohol, cocaine, etc.); 3. opportunity to participate in weekly rounds and conferences conducted by the substance abuse faculty.
