Gambling Habit – You Never Know When It Can Become An Addiction

The problem of gambling addiction is as serious as addiction to drugs, cigarettes or alcohol. On the face of it, this may seem like an over exaggeration because bit of gambling has never harmed anybody. Of course, people lose money but what is the harm as long as the person feels excited and alive? Well, the biggest characteristic of an addiction is inability to control.

There are many persons who have a peg of scotch every night before they go to sleep and stay healthy. It takes a lot of self control to stop at just one peg. In the same way, it is very difficult to stop gambling. Persons with self control will never become addicts. However, most individuals fail to exercise control when under stress.

Some persons may gamble because they want to escape their problems and live in a fantasy land where they can win a million dollars without doing anything. Others may want to gamble because they do not earn enough and want to supplement their income. Further, people may gamble because they have lost money that they ought to have saved and want to recover the same.

It always starts with money and invariably ends up with inability to control ones actions. This is when gambling becomes as dangerous as smoke and drinking. There will be disconnect with reality. The person will not be in a position to think logically and take rational decisions. If he or she does not have sufficient cash, things may vanish which will be used to pay for the gambling exercise.

The fact that one can gamble from the privacy of one’s home using online websites does not help either. It is advisable to treat any person who likes to gamble as a potential addict. The last thing you want is to discover late that you have a full blown addiction case in your hands.
