Although gambling is legal in most states it can often lead to impulse like behaviors that cause the human body to become addicted to the emotions and feelings that come with gambling. Compulsive gambling is a serious addiction that can destroy many people’s personal and professional lives as well as lead them to financial ruin. Luckily there are treatment facilities that handle the care and treatment of gambling addictions. However, the hardest part is knowing if you are suffering from an addiction to gambling.

Here are some of the signs and symptoms that you or someone you know is experiencing a gambling addiction.

The Need to Gamble. Gambling occasionally or frequently does not mean that you have a problem. If you notice that there is no ability to control the need to gamble or if you notice that all the person can thinks of is gambling it might be a sign there is a problem.

Ability to Walk Away. Do you or your loved one have the ability to walk away from the casino or gambling area? Do you always feel the need to play one more or two more or ten more? Not feeling as if you can walk away is a sign that there may be an addiction.

Gambling in Secret. Many compulsive gamblers know that they have a problem and so they gamble in secret. They often stop at casinos or slot machines on the way home but do not tell their friends or family when they get home. Feeling the need to keep your gambling habits a secret could be a sign that there is a problem developing.

Instability in Your Life. If your gambling habits are causing problems with relationships, careers and your finances it could be a sign that there is more going on then just a casual need to gamble.

Knowing some of these signs and symptoms can help you or your loved one get the help they need.
